Strain rescue service

Are you having breeding problems with a specific mouse strain? Are there health or other issues that threaten the extinction of your mouse strain? Our Strain Rescue service has been designed to help with these problems.

The JAX® Services Assisted Reproductive Technology (ARTs) group has successfully rescued more than 70 mouse strains. Using our unparalleled experience in mouse breeding, husbandry and ARTs we provide investigators and colony managers a variety of options to improve the viability of their mouse strain. Techniques that could be employed include:

  • Sperm collection
  • Sperm freezing
  • Superovulation of females
  • Oocyte collection
  • Ovary transplant
  • IVF (in vitro fertilization)
  • Embryo culture
  • Embryo freezing
  • Embryo transfer in SPF facility
  • Health monitoring and housing
